More web sites are becoming the victims of email harvesting and then having their emails used to send SPAM; but you can stop this.
You may have already been targeted by SPAMMERS taking your email addresses and then sending emails from them as if they were from yourself. This is a major issue because if you're running a legitimate, the last thing that you want is SPAM being sent as if it's from your company. There is a way you can stop this.
Firstly, check with your hosting company. Tell them that you'd like to check what security has been set up to stop SPAMMERS sending emails as if they were from your domains. You web host SHOULD by default have set a TXT DNS specification. This specification should look something like:
"v=spf1 a mx ?all" - or where 'all' is replaced with your server's IP address
This method, also known as Sender Policy Framework (SPF), SPF allows software to identify and reject forged addresses in the SMTP MAIL FROM (Return-Path), a typical nuisance in e-mail SPAM.
If your web host doesn't provide this, then it may be time to move! With email harvesting like this, you may not know if your email has been used to send SPAM and it's a risk you shouldn't take! Have a look at the web hosting services offered by Alias Hosting and have a think whether you're willing to take the risk or not.
